What is GO Urban?
GO, which is short for Get Outside, is an initiative of The Vallon Institute which is aimed at creating a healthier lifestyle. GO Urban is a series of urban adventure races whose race fees will provide funding for The Vallon Institute.
Can I compete by myself?
No, we require teams to be composed of two competitors. However, don’t let this discourage you as we are sure you’ll be able to find a willing and able partner. Heck, maybe GO Urban could serve as an interesting first date!
I would like to compete with my family. Is this possible?
Absolutely, if you would like to take your kids along on your adventure you are more than welcome to.
What’s included with the race fee?
- Race T-shirt (100% organic cotton)
- Reusable Love Bottle
- Finish line refreshments (fruit and water, of course it is going to be healthy, that’s the whole point of the race)
- Race numbers
- Race prizes:
- 1st Place: $400 and free Championship race entry
- 2nd Place: $275 and free Championship race entry
- 3rd Place: $100 and free Championship race entry
- All teams who compete qualify for the Championship race
- An Adventure like no other.
What must I bring on race day?
- A fully charged cellphone capable of SMS text messaging (all clues and responses will be done through text messaging).
- Comfortable clothes and footwear. It is up to you whether you walk, jog, run, or flat out sprint the course, so dress accordingly. Remember it pays to be a winner.
- A digital camera or camera phone that takes easily viewable photos (think iPhone).
- Identification
- Cash for public transportation.
What happens if it rains?
Provided we are not in the middle of a monsoon, the race will go as planned. Look at the bright side, you’ll have some great stories to tell afterwards over a beer or glass of wine. With that said you may want to also dress for the elements if Mother Nature decides to wet us down.
Does GO Urban provide refunds.
Nope. Sorry, we don’t allow commitment-phobes.
What is a GO point?
A GO point is a required stop during the race. The clues provided during the race will lead to all the GO points.
What are the rules?
We like to think there are no rules, but just for those of you who love to read the fine print here ya go:
Race Rules:
- Act the way you want other competitors to act.
- Teams must stay together throughout the race (this includes crossing the finish line).
- Obey all local, state, and federal rules and regulations.
- The use of rollerblades, skateboards, bikes, personal cars, and taxis are prohibited. You can either walk, jog, run, or take public transportation.
- All GO points are mandatory.
- If you break a rule (and get caught), stand tall and accept your punishment.

Can I get help solving clues?
Absolutely. In order to find the GOpoint you are going to need to solve a clue. So unless you are a walking “Google” you might want to consider the following suggestions. (wink! wink!)
- Call a friend or family member.
- Bring along a web enabled cellphone (iPhone, Blackberry).
- Bring a laptop and find a hot spot.
- Use a GPS or map.
- Create your own operations base. Have friends and family standing-by to assist you in solving clues.
